During the one year programme, there are four key modules as follows:
Collaboration and planning– 20 Credits
This module operates as the initial module. Students will present creative outcomes from previous study and take part in group critiques to strengthen awareness of own practice and future development. Students will undertake a short workshop-based project, enabling them to work collaboratively. They will develop self-management and leadership skills through this, together with planning for the Extended Major Project and contextual study. Students will produce proposals for future intentions which will be communicated to a high standard.
Entrepreneurship – 20 Credits
Students will participate in innovative and creative techniques and problem solving for product outcomes. This will include investigating the product as tangible or non-tangible. Students will work in a collaborative and enterprising way and through understanding enterprise in creative industries, take innovative approaches, thus acquiring business and marketing skills.
Extended Major Project - 60 Credits (also know as dissertation project)
The aim of the Extended Major Project is to provide an opportunity for a sustained focus on a specific project which allows students to apply the knowledge, technical skills, creative thinking, analysis and problem solving in a systematic approach. Students will develop adaptive, flexible and pragmatic skills and will build on skills learnt in previous study. Students will be expected to research and explore historical and contextual references and make connections to own work.
The module is designed to enable the student to develop and exhibit a range of skills in a chosen creative pathway, for example in music, visual arts/textiles, performance, media or other. Outcomes from this module will also enable students to share discourse and creative dialogue through engaging with guest speakers and taking part in critical debate.
During the EMP students may also have the opportunity to work collaboratively, building upon skills gained in the Collaboration and planning module.
The Extended Major project, together with a contextual study represents the culmination of a degree course and constitutes a key determinant of honours status.
Professional Presentation – 20 Credits
The work presented in this module is based upon selected outcomes of the students’ creative practice including as appropriate the outcomes of the Extended Major Project. Students will develop professional presentation skills to a relevant target audience, through performance, film, exhibition or other as relevant to their studies. Students will also be expected to produce a professional portfolio demonstrating professional self-promotion and marketing skills.
