Successful completion of all four fields will qualify you as a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (Grad CIPD). You will also be eligible to apply for corporate membership of the Institute (MCIPD) subject to qualifying experience. If you meet the requirements of one of two fields you will qualify as a Licentiate of the CIPD (Lic. CIPD).
The Professional Development Scheme is particularly appropriate if you are:
• Currently in a personnel management or related role and wishing to develop your knowledge and expertise in the field.
There are four fields to the CIPD Professional Development Scheme:
• Field 1 (Year 1) Leadership and Management
• Field 2 (Year 2) People Management and Development
• Field 3 (Year 3) Generalist Personnel and Development
• Field 4 (Year 3) Management Report and CPD Record
FIELD 1: LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
'Leadership and Management' provides you with the knowledge and understanding not only to manage at your own operational level, but to do this always with a strategic perspective. You will also develop a critical and analytical approach to problems, and providing solutions through the synthesis of ideas and experience drawn from as wide an arena as possible. The emphasis through the programme will be on applying skills and knowledge to the analysis and resolutions of management issues relevant to your own organisation. You will also identify your own individual learning needs throughout the course.
The four modules are:
• Managing and leading people
• Managing for results
• Managing information for competitive advantage
• Managing in a strategic business context
FIELD 2: PEOPLE MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
This is the vital integrative element of the CIPD Professional Development Scheme. It is now increasingly common for practitioners to move between functions and organisations through their working lives. As a consequence, it is important that all personnel and development practitioners are aware not only of their own area of expertise, but also of the wide contribution which personnel and development can make to organisational success.
FIELD 3: GENERALIST PERSONNEL AND DEVELOPMENT
The standards must be met in the following four elective modules:
• People Resourcing
• Employment Law
• Employee Reward
• Employee Relations
FIELD 4: THE MANAGEMENT REPORT & CPD RECORD
• You will be required to complete a management report (around 7000 words) in an HRM area of your choice. There will be some formal input sessions and informal workshops, but the bulk of the work will be Research and Field based.
• You will also need to provide evidence of an up-to-date Continuous Professional Development Record.
