Summary:
This nationally accredited qualification offers an ideal start if you want to work with children. It will give you basic knowledge and understanding of the key areas in caring for children. It can also help you to develop skills which can be used later in all forms of employment.
Entry Requirements:
Normally one GCSE at Grade D and one at Grade E, plus an interest in and enthusiasm for working with children.
Assessment:
The course will be internally assessed by a range of methods. This could include tasks such as information charts, leaflets or written assignment
Academic Progression:
If you successfully complete the programme with a Distinction, you may be able to progress to the Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development.
Career Progression:
This qualification supports learners in preparing for the "next steps" either in training or moving towards work.

Course Content:
The course covers topics such as Personal Development, Human Growth and Development, Food and Nutrition, Health and Safety, Care of Children, Play and Practical activities. You will also learn about the kinds of job opportunities available in the child care field.
Work Placement:
Depending on your progress, your programme may include approx 15 days of work experience.
