Summary: 

National Vocational Qualifications are nationally recognised work-based training awards designed around the needs of employers. The NVQ level 4 in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) is aimed at individuals working with children and young people in essential care environments, or palliative care. They are also suitable for those working with children with learning disabilities or challenging behaviour and serve as a benchmark for those in more supervisory positions with greater autonomy and authority.

Entry Requirements: 

Ideally candidates will have completed a relevant NVQ Level 3 and/or have had 2 years experience as a practising supervisor/ manager in a health or care environment.  The learner also will need to be able to demonstrate a theoretical and practical competence in the workplace to a national standard in key areas.

Core Skills: 

This course develops the skills needed to be an effective leader within a health and social care environment. This course is recommended for employees working in a supervisory or management role; who want to gain a qualification through assessments in the workplace.

In this course learning is based around providing health and social care skills that enable the individual to ensure that their organisation achieves its objectives and continuously improves its performance for the clients.   

Assessment: 

Training and assessments are mainly delivered in the workplace. Assessment is via a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects. 

Career Progression: 

Career or academic progression may include development or promotion at work or within this sector and progression into Foundation Degree.

Full Description: 

This Level 4 NVQ is ideal for developing skills and knowledge whilst working within world of health and social care. This qualification offers the unique opportunity to earn whilst learning in this sector. Real work experience, which is personalised to each learner’s aspirations and interests, is integrated into the programme.

To achieve a full award, candidates must complete 8 units in total, four mandatory units and four optional units, which will be chosen from a range of 34 units reflecting the current role and responsibilities of the learner.  The 4 mandatory units are:  

  • Use and develop methods and systems to communicate, record and report
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy and safe practices in the working environment
  • Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others
  • Develop practice which promotes the involvement, well-being and protection of children and young people

The additional four units required to complete the full award will be chosen from the range of units reflecting the current role and responsibilities of the learner.
 
Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace.
