Sports Therapy VTCT Diploma

Summary: 

This is a one year intensive course.  Ideal if you are interested specifically in the sport, health and fitness industry. 

It provides training in all aspects of health, fitness, therapy and exercise.

Course Length: 
One year
Course Schedule: 
3 days a week, 9am to 6pm. Days can vary due to timetabling.
Entry Requirements: 

Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, preferably including a Human Science and Sports Studies.

Core Skills: 

The topics that are included on the programme are:

Gym-based exercises
Body massage
Sports event massage and body treatments
Anatomy and physiology
Health and Safety

Work experience is offered at a range of national sporting events where you will be required to perform massage on athletes competing at these events.

Assessment: 

Modules will draw on different assessment strategies which will include:

Portfolio based assignments
Practical activities/assessments
Group work
End of module tests
Presentations
Peer group assessment

Academic Progression: 

You can go on to study degrees at university or here at college in the following areas:

Sports
Beauty Therapy
Holistic Therapies
Teacher Training

At college we offer a Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise.

Career Progression: 

On successful completion of the course you will be able to consider work in a fitness centre, health farm, cruise liner or sports centre.  You might also consider starting your own business.

Full Description: 

Qualifications you gain are:

  • VTCT L3 Certificate in Swedish Massage
  • VTCT Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
  • VTCT Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards
  • Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) YMCA Level 2
  • First Aid Certificate

Additional study (home based study) will be required to complete the course and this is a minimum of 15 hours per week.
