A Tutor view on @MADEfestival from Ben Bidwell

It was an early start to the day from St Andrews' House, but everyone showed up on time and relatively upbeat. No disasters on the way there and with our safe arrival at Mecure Hotel in Sheffield, the students started working on the networking skills - meeting a few new faces (some famous) and collecting a great deal of business cards!

Blogging from @MADEfestival in Sheffield

So, we made a 4 hour journey, and some of us started working at 3.30 am, but we're here. @MADEfestival in Sheffiled, the Enterprise and Entrepreneur Festival for 2011. It's a cavalcade of the famous - and occasionaly rich (or super-rich as I notice Peter Jones strolling past) and the influential. Our students just had a chat with Vince Cable - well, more of a word than a chat - but he's a busy man and everyone wants to talk to him.

Higher Education fees - what happens next?

There’s a lot of debate over higher education fees at the moment – well, that’s putting it mildly. I know I’m in the business so probably hear more about it but seriously, even for the average man-on-the-street … you’d have to be living in a cave with a blanket over your head and turnips in your ears to have missed it. £9000 per year tuition fees; burdens of debt; education only affordable by the elite etc. etc.

First day of term, T-minus 1

It's 4pm on Sunday 4th September. In 14 hours we open our doors once again to several thousand eager students. This is always the most exciting day of the year for me. As I posted in my last blog - you're never quite sure of who you're going to get, what these personalities are like, what they will add to the diversity of the College - but you can guarantee that they are, each and every individual, taking a positive step towards their future.

Normal for Norfolk

Friday evening of the weekend before the start of term. It’s been a manic couple of weeks of enrolment and we still have more people coming in the doors – and the HE students next week!

Were you aware that City College Norwich has almost 1,500 students studying Higher Education courses? From HNDs and HNCs through Foundation Degrees, Top-ups, BAs and BSCs – right through to post-graduate and higher level professional qualifications.

This is going to be a great year, full of opportunities

Firstly, we'd like to welcome all new students to the College for 2011/12. It's fantastic to see so many new faces around the campuses and we look forward to getting to know you all better over the course of the next few weeks and months.

Of course, we can't forget our returning students - welcome back! We hope you all had a great summer and are now ready for another exciting year at the College.
