Fee information

Further Education

How much are my fees?
Tuition and registration fees are announced each year - usually in May or June - and are available from the Advice Shop on 01603 773773. You will be required to pay 25% of your fees when you enrol.

What do course fees cover?
These normally include the annual tuition fee, registration fee and/or examination fees and any administration fee as appropriate to the course.
Where the awarding body requires membership or entry to an examination to be made directly (ie not through the college) this fee will not be included in the course fee. These are marked ‘direct entry’ under the relevant fee details in the appropriate prospectus.

I am under 19 and will be taking a further education course. Do I have to pay course fees?
If you are under 19 on 31 August before you start your course, you won’t normally have to pay for tuition, registration or exam entry fees for the duration of the course. There could, however, be additional expenses eg for books, study materials, uniform, protective clothing and study trips related to your course. These are not included in the course fees and details will be available at enrolment. Help with these additional expenses may be available from the 16-19 Bursary Fund.
For further information, please contact the Advice Shop in A1 ( Norwich Building) or on 01603 773773.
There are some exceptions to the regulations on course fees for students under 19. Please check when you enrol. If you will be under 16 on 1 September of the year that you start your course, please contact The Advice Shop on 01603 773773.

I am 19 years of age and have not previously paid fees. Do I have to pay course fees?
Yes. If you are 19 before 31 August just before you start your further education course, and you are not continuing on the same course, you will have to pay fees. However, exceptions apply if you are in receipt of certain benefits or you are studying for your first Level 2 or 3 qualification (see below).

Can I get a reduction in fees if I’m receiving benefits?
You may be entitled to 100% tuition fee remission if you are unemployed and taking a government funded further education course and you are receiving one of the following benefits:

  • Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Work-related Employment Support Allowance
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Income Support

All the pages of your award letter must be shown so that your right to fee remission can be assessed; it is not automatic. Please ask at the time you enrol if this applies to your course and bring your benefit book/proof of entitlement with you as we will need to see it. Please note you will still be liable for any registration fee.

What are 'commercial' courses?
Commercial courses are those which do not attract fee remissions or other reductions - even if you are on a low income or in receipt of benefits.

I cannot pay the fee all at once, can I pay by instalments?
Yes, if your course is 15 weeks or more in duration and costs at least £100, you can pay in 4 monthly instalments but you will need to pay 25% when you enrol. The balance will be collected by direct debit in equal instalments on the 28 th of the following three months. The instalment option is not available to employers. For further information, please call Finance on 01603 773110.

I am 19 years or over and wish to study a Level 2 qualification
You may be entitled to have your tuition fee remitted if you are under 24 and studying for your first full Level 2 qualification.

I am 19 years or over and wish to study a Level 3 qualification
You may be entitled to have your tuition fee remitted you are under 24 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification.

When are course fees due?
You will need to pay 25% when you enrol and you will be able to set up an instalment plan.

Methods of payment
Cash, cheques and most major debit/credit cards are accepted by post or in person at the Cashiers window in Finance. Contact Finance on 01603 773110 for more information.

If my course lasts more than one year, will the fees go up the next year?
Fees are reviewed annually and may be increased. If you want to plan ahead, the following year’s fees will be published in May/June.

What other costs could I incur?
You may incur other costs in connection with your course eg books, protective clothing, uniform, equipment, study trips or study materials. These are not included within the course fee and details will be available at enrolment.
Help may be available from the 16-19 Bursary Fund or Adult Discretionary Learner Support Fund. For further information, please contact the Advice Shop in A1 (Norwich Building) or on 01603 773773 or email information@ccn.ac.uk.

If I have to drop out of my course, can I get a refund?
Refunds are not automatic, but are made in certain circumstances. Further details are available from The Advice Shop.

My employer has agreed to pay my fees
Before you enrol, contact Admissions in the Advice Shop (A1) on 01603 773773 and ask for a fee authorisation form to be sent to you. Ask your employer to sign and stamp it, and bring the form with you when you enrol. We will then invoice your employer.

I am in full-time education at school and also wish to do a course at City College. Do I have to pay fees?

What if I get into financial difficulties whilst studying at City College?

If you/your parents are receiving certain means-tested benefits or have a gross annual income of £16,190 or less per year, you will be eligible to apply.
