National Skills Academies

The College has earned National Skills Academy status in five areas now:

• Financial Services
• Manufacturing
• Creative & Cultural
• Hospitality
• Retail.

The aim of the National Skills Academy is to provide solutions to some of the long-standing skills problems facing employers – in particular, improving the employability of young people, providing entry level training of high quality and facilities for retraining and continuing professional development. The world of finance is a huge employment area and is of particular prominence to the local economy.

The National Skills Academy for Financial Services is based in St Andrews House was made possible by the backing and belief of local organisations, our founding sponsors. Boasting contemporary office space, conference facilities and state-of-the-art technology the facility is designed to feel more like a thriving business HQ than a conventional college or training environment.

The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing aims to meet the challenge to enable global competitiveness through innovative training solutions. It is a beacon for security for manufacturing employers to maximise the return on learning investment for both the individual and the employer.

The National Skills Academy Creative & Cultural aims to provide world-class training for the world's greatest stage! Establishing an industry-led focus on live music and technical theatre, providing the infrastructure to attract and train skilled performance and events technicians, becoming the most up to date and skilled in the world.

We are proud to be one of the first eight colleges to receive National Skills Academy Hospitality status. With more than 300 colleges in the UK offering catering courses this prestigious award recognises the quality of the whole range of hospitality and catering courses and our well established links with local employers in the hospitality industry.

We are also now part of the National Skills Academy of Retail, with plans to develop a skills shop in the heart of Chapelfield Shopping Centre.
