Local financial services company Alan Boswell Group has increased its intake of apprentices this year, highlighting the attractiveness of apprenticeships as an excellent route into skilled employment with great future prospects.
A record five new apprentices have been taken on by Alan Boswell Group for 2011. Three of the apprentices have come straight from sixth-form and two from college and were selected by the company for their maturity, professional outlook and determination.
The apprentice programme spans three years with four of the new apprentices - Tom Cullum, Erin Luck, Anthony Trebble and Max Hutchings - working across various departments in the Norwich offices on Thorpe Road and Prince of Wales Road.
The apprentices are employed and trained by the company, whilst receiving additional support through regular visits by assessors from City College Norwich as they work towards their apprenticeship qualification.
Kelly Hutchinson is working in the financial services division (Alan Boswell & Company Ltd), following a two year course at City College Norwich and a summer internship with the company.
Laura Trenaman, who joined the apprentice programme at Alan Boswell Group in 2010, said: “I have worked in the claims and commercial areas of the business and on reception. The variety of work has really helped me get to know the company and the people. I have also completed my NVQ and IF1 and am well on the way to being Cert CII. It’s been a busy and productive first year!”
HR manager at Alan Boswell Group, Gillian Anderson-Brown, said: “We really believe in the value of apprentices, which is why we’ve upped our intake. It can be tough to recruit staff with the right technical skills so ‘growing our own’ talent makes sense. At a time when youth unemployment is at record high in the UK, it’s vital for local businesses to get involved, give young people opportunities and invest in their staff.”
