Awards to celebrate employers’ support for training

City College Norwich will hold a breakfast awards event on Wednesday 22 June to recognise and celebrate the role played by employers in supporting vocational success.  The event is being held as part of national Vocational Qualifications (VQ) Day.

The event will highlight the outstanding contributions made by local employers who have worked with City College Norwich to support vocational learning, as well as celebrating individuals’ achievements.

There are five awards for employers (Support for Apprenticeships, Education-Business Links, Higher Level Skills, Skills for Life and Work, and Small Businesses Commitment to Learning) and two further awards to recognise and celebrate individuals’ achievements (Apprentice of the Year and Learning in the Workplace Champion).

Nominations for the awards have been made by the College’s Employer Partnerships team, which works with employers in all sectors to provide solutions to their training needs, as well as arranging work experience and placements for the college’s students.  The winners have been chosen by a panel of three judges, two of whom are independent of the college.

VQ Day is a UK-wide celebration of the people who gain vocational qualifications every year.  Now in its fourth year, VQ Day aims to raise the stature and demonstrate the benefits of practical and vocational qualifications to future learners, employers, opinion formers and the wider public.

Dick Palmer, Principal, City College Norwich, said: “VQ Day provides an opportunity to celebrate vocational qualifications and to thank the many employers who work with City College Norwich to support vocational success.  Employers play a vital role in developing the skills of their current employees and the workforce of tomorrow, and we are looking forward to celebrating this contribution on Wednesday 22nd June.”
