Entrepreneurs’ praise for the StartUp Lounge

Gazelle entrepreneurs Priya Lakhani, founder of Masala Masala and SOCO, and Ben Ramsden, founder of Pants to Poverty, were full of praise for the StartUp Lounge after experiencing City College Norwich’s inspiring new facility for developing students’ entrepreneurial skills. 

Speaking at the official launch of the StartUp Lounge on Friday 3rd February, Ms Lakhani, who left behind a career in law to become an entrepreneur and set up fresh Indian sauce company Masala Masala, said:

StartUp Lounge launch for EDP Future50

The StartUp Lounge at City College Norwich, the innovative and exciting new space for teaching students entrepreneurship and enterprise skills, welcomed many of the region’s leading new businesses for the 2011 EDP Future50 launch.

The event provided an opportunity for this highly successful group of entrepreneurs to see and hear what City College Norwich - who alongside North Herts College, Gateshead College, New College Nottingham and Warwickshire College have developed the Gazelle group - are doing to support the next generation of business start-ups.

Students and employers' StartUp Lounge preview

As part of City College Norwich’s celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, enterprise students and employers have been given an exclusive preview of the college’s exciting new StartUp Lounge.

Due to open fully later this year, the StartUp Lounge is a fantastic, innovative new space at the heart of the College which will allow students to travel through a business start-up “journey”.

Gazelle drive to create generation of can-do entrepreneurs

A transformation of the Further Education sector is the goal of a new group called Gazelle formed of private and public sectors leaders which has been launched at the Association of Colleges Conference in Birmingham.

Gazelle has been created by Generator Enterprises Ltd, a company founded by five leading college principals - including City College Norwich Principal, Dick Palmer - that aims to transform the Further Education sector through entrepreneurship.

College shortlisted for TES employer engagement award

City College Norwich has been shortlisted for one of the inaugural Times Education Supplement (TES) Further Education awards for its apprenticeship work with insurance firm AXA.

The college has been shortlisted in the Employer Engagement category, in recognition of its highly successful delivery of a range of training programmes to AXA’s staff in locations throughout the UK.

College backs new Wellbeing Exchange for Norfolk employers

City College Norwich is supporting a new initiative – the Norfolk Health & Wellbeing Exchange – which brings together Norfolk employers to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees.

The Exchange - www.wellbeingexchange.org - is a free service that allows local employers to share practical resources and services that promote staff health and wellbeing, covering everything from winter flu jabs to health checks, yoga classes, exercise activities and weight loss groups.

Alan Boswell Group takes on more apprentices with City College Norwich

Local financial services company Alan Boswell Group has increased its intake of apprentices this year, highlighting the attractiveness of apprenticeships as an excellent route into skilled employment with great future prospects.

A record five new apprentices have been taken on by Alan Boswell Group for 2011. Three of the apprentices have come straight from sixth-form and two from college and were selected by the company for their maturity, professional outlook and determination.

RETAIL skills academy award for supporting local retailers

The RETAIL skills academy at City College Norwich has been presented with a national award by retail guru Mary Portas for the level of support it has provided to local independent retailers. 

The Norwich team met retail consultant and TV personality, Mary Portas after training more independent retailers in the Mary Portas Guide to Successful Retailing programme of master classes than any other UK provider.

The Academy was founded by Peter Jones CBE in 2008 to nurture young entrepreneurial talent through further education, where young people can develop their business skills with the aim of setting up their own businesses.
