Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg MP will be visiting City College Norwich’s National Skills Academy for Financial Services on Thursday to find out more about a new redundancy support scheme being offered by the College.
The National Skills Academy based at St Andrews House in the City will be opening its doors to workers recently made redundant or to those at risk of becoming so. The College will be offering individuals advice, guidance and information about a range of specially developed short courses, in areas such as computer skills, as well as offering practical support such as help with CV writing. The college is offering support across the range of business sectors not just in the area of financial services.
Dick Palmer, Principal of City College Norwich, said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome Nick Clegg to our world class National Skills Academy.
“In the current economic climate, the public require sound, professional advice on retraining and the career options are available to them. It is my belief that City College Norwich really is well placed to offer such advice due to our unique position of having excellent relationships with businesses and employers whilst at the same time have an in-depth knowledge of training.”
Ahead of his visit, Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the innovative work being undertaken by City College Norwich in helping people who have been made redundant.
“I’m coming to Norwich to speak to staff at the college about how they will use their expertise to support people who have lost their jobs.
“Inventive new schemes that allow people to retrain and re-skill are essential in helping Norwich through the recession.”
