Prince’s Trust Student Achievements Celebrated

The achievements of students who have completed the 12-week Prince’s Trust programme with City College Norwich have been recognised in a celebration event held in the College’s Debut restaurant.

The Prince’s Trust team members spoke about their achievements and their own personal highlights from the programme.  The 16-25 year old students, all of whom were previously not in education, employment or training, testified to the impact the intensive programme has had on them.

Short films were shown of the activities the young people have taken part in, which included outdoor pursuits on a residential, a community project working at the PACT Animal Sanctuary at River Farm, and a final team challenge supporting the service users at Norwich Day Services.

These projects and experiences have given the students opportunities to develop valuable life skills and skills for employment, helped to increase their confidence and enabled them to gain recognised qualifications to add to their CV.

Matt Brook, 16, from Taverham said: “I have achieved so much on the Prince’s Trust 12 Week Programme. I have got involved with the local community, have met loads of different people and I’ve got my food hygiene certificate. The programme has really helped me to be more confident in myself and work with people better. Now I have finished the course I am going to carry on doing volunteer work, continue my survival skills instructor training and I have applied for a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship.”

Matt Applegate, Princes Trust Team Leader, City College Norwich said: “The young people on the programme have worked really hard and have kept highly motivated throughout the 12 weeks. I am extremely proud of the group.  It was fantastic to be able to give them the recognition they deserve at the presentation event with so many people there to support them.”

The Great Yarmouth Prince’s Trust team will be holding their end of programme celebration at the Burrage Centre, James Paget Hospital on Wednesday 22nd December at 3pm.
