Contrary to the headline that appeared in the Norwich Evening News on Tuesday 3 August 2010, City College Norwich’s courses for 2010/11 are not all full yet.
If you have applied for a course at City College Norwich you should come into college for interview during our enrolment period, which commences week beginning 23 August (all applicants will be sent a letter with details of when they should come in).
If you have not yet applied for a course at City College Norwich, it is not too late to do so. For further information, advice and guidance on courses that are available, please visit our Advice Shop or call on (01603) 773 773.
City College Norwich understands the anxiety that the report in the Norwich Evening News may have caused for those applying or thinking about applying for courses with us. Principal Dick Palmer has issued the following statement in response to the article:
More people than ever before are recognising the benefits of continuing or coming back to education. City College Norwich, in common with colleges across the country, has seen record numbers of applications this year (we have already received 8% more applications compared to last year).
This is partly due to the recession, but also reflects a longer term trend of rising participation as more people recognise that gaining skills and qualifications is essential to securing a good job and bright career prospects. In recent years it has become the norm for popular courses in areas such as construction, performing arts and health and social care to be oversubscribed.
Whilst I am pleased that so many have chosen to apply to City College Norwich, I also want to offer some reassurance to those who are concerned that they might miss out on a place. We still have a range of courses available that are not yet filled and we are continuing to accept new applications over the summer. If you have not already applied to us, it is not too late to do so.
All students who have already applied for courses with City College Norwich should come into college during our enrolment period towards the end of August. Whilst we cannot guarantee everyone a place on their preferred course, we will do all we can to help applicants and enquirers to the college.
The College’s Advice Shop, based on our main Ipswich Road site, offers free advice and guidance to all applicants and those enquiring about courses and is open throughout the summer. No appointment is necessary – simply pop in and have a chat to one of our advisors or call on (01603) 773 773.
In early September we will once again be running our Get Yourself Sorted days, where anyone who has not yet secured a place can come along and receive information, advice and guidance on any courses not yet filled.
Taking the decision to come to college, develop your skills and gain qualifications is a vitally important way to invest in your future. City College Norwich’s courses are not all full yet and my message is simple: come in and talk to us if you are unsure as to what to do next.
Dick Palmer, Principal, City College Norwich
