South African visitors impressed by College’s enterprise work

City College Norwich was proud to welcome visitors from the South African High Commission on Thursday 13th October, with the visiting dignitaries being given a tour of the college’s National Skills Academy for Financial Services at St Andrews House.

The visit was part of a regional visit to financial services training facilities in the East of England and to discuss trade opportunities with the Financial Industry Group.  Yusuf Timol, Minister Economic, Cathy Moruke, Political Adviser, and Anne Page, Honorary Consul for South African: East of England, were welcomed to City College Norwich by the Principal, Dick Palmer.

The distinguished guests were shown around the state-of-the-art facilities at St Andrews House and were given an overview of the latest developments at the college, including City College Norwich’s innovative work around enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.

Yusuf Timol, Minister Economic at the South African High Commission said that the visit had been worthwhile, highlighting approaches that could be usefully applied to training in South Africa.  Mr Timol said “We are interested in new ways of teaching, especially the approach to work readiness [we have heard about].  In South Africa there is an environment of high unemployment and we can learn from the drive towards entrepreneurship”.

Dick Palmer, Principal, City College Norwich, said, “We were delighted to welcome representatives from the South African High Commission to the National Skills Academy for Financial Services.  In today’s globalised world it is increasingly important to meet with international partners and to understand the global developments that affect not just financial services, but all sectors of the economy”.
