Students and employers' StartUp Lounge preview

As part of City College Norwich’s celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, enterprise students and employers have been given an exclusive preview of the college’s exciting new StartUp Lounge.

Due to open fully later this year, the StartUp Lounge is a fantastic, innovative new space at the heart of the College which will allow students to travel through a business start-up “journey”.

Each stage of the journey has its own “space” or area. Students will be able to go straight from one stage to the next, select the areas most relevant to them, or progress through all of the phases one after another.

The spaces in this “enterprise engine”, all fully equipped with the very latest digital technology, are:

  1. Ideation
  2. Research
  3. Collaboratorium
  4. Consultation
  5. The Studio
  6. Intereaction
  7. Workplace
  8. Entrepreneurs’ Lounge

On Wednesday, the College’s Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students met local businesspeople for a networking breakfast in the Debut Restaurant, before being given a sneak preview of the StartUp Lounge.

Our visitors and students were all impressed by the facilities and the opportunities that the StartUp Lounge will provide to all students to develop entrepreneurial and enterprise skills.

Martin Lake, Mid-Norfolk Branch Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said “I saw the StartUp Lounge during its construction and it is lovely to come after such a short time to see the fabulous new facilities. It feels vibrant and full of energy.”

Glen Webster, Area Business Manager (Norfolk), Barclays Bank, said, “Many aspects of it are impressive, but probably the bit that impressed me the most is the pitching zone.  I think that’s going to help.”

John Clarke, Business Trainer, Norwich Enterprise Centre added, “I’m amazed at how impressive it is and the thought that’s gone into it and the way you’ve got all of these different areas that can be used, it’s really incredible.”

The Business with Enterprise students were clearly also very excited by what they had seen.

Garrett Brown said “I was really shocked at how good the StartUp Lounge is. It is very intuitive and I have enjoyed looking at all the things that have been created.”

Fellow student Jack Chetwood commented “I’m impressed! I really like the pitching area, which I think will be really useful.  We’re all looking to set up our own businesses, so the opportunity to practice our pitches and then speak to potential investors will be really useful."

This facility is truly promising

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be taken on a tour of this facility while it was still under construction. Even in an unfinished state it was truly something special and full of promise. I think the students at CCN are privileged to have such a wonderful environment in which to nurture their entrepreneurial skills.

Well done CCN!
