City College Norwich’s Sixth Form Centre students are celebrating after achieving an excellent set of A level exam results, matching last year’s best-ever pass rate of 97 per cent.
There were fourteen A2 subjects in which 95 per cent or more of students achieved grades A*-E. One hundred per cent passes were achieved in A2 Drama and Theatre Studies, English Literature, Film Studies, Mathematics, Media and Physics.
These results are particularly pleasing as this year's students were the first to complete the tough new A-level syllabus introduced for 2009-10, which also saw the introduction of the new A* grade for the highest achieving students. There was also a strong performance in AS exam results, with students here too matching last year’s pass rate (84 per cent).
Dick Palmer, Principal, City College Norwich, said: “I would like to congratulate all of our students on their A2 and AS results, which they have worked so hard to achieve. Even with the introduction of a challenging new syllabus our students have recorded a 97 per cent pass rate at A2, matching our best ever results from last year. We have also had several students achieve the new A* grade, which is fantastic.”
A level student Abigail Garner, who studied, Fine Art, Photography and Textile Design, said: “I am over the moon. It’s fantastic. I really was not expecting these results. To get two A’s and a B is amazing, I can’t believe it! Going to University for me is so important and I realise how lucky I am to have got a place this year. The last two years at City College have been the best”.
Emma Sparks, who studied Sociology, Fine Art and Photography, and who also achieved 2 As and a B, said: “I was not expecting to get these results at all. I’m thrilled! I’m hopefully off to Lincoln in September. The last two years at City College have taught me a lot and I’ve had a great time”.
Ben Clarke, who took Business, Film Studies and Sociology, said: “I’m on top of the world. I dropped out of Sixth Form when I was 18 and City College was my second chance. Two years on I’ve got the results I needed and I’m now off to the UEA to study Law with American Law. I’m so happy.”
Any students who may not have achieved the A level grades they were hoping for should not panic, as Sixth Form Centre staff and specialist advisors from the college’s Advice Shop are on hand to guide them through the UCAS Clearing process and other options that are available after A levels. The Advice Shop is open Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5.00pm. Call us on (01603) 773 773 or you can also email: information@ccn.ac.uk.
