Students put their Presentation Skills to the Test

Students will be competing to give the best interview in a specially organised competition, organised by City College Norwich, Tribe PR and Chloe Smith MP, to win an iPad and 3 days' work experience with Tribe.

City College Norwich has teamed up with Tribe, a Public Relations consultancy, and Chloe Smith MP, to offer students the opportunity to gain some real life interview experience. City College Norwich is keen to improve the employability of students for when they leave the college. In order to do this a programme of activity has been devised to assist with developing the skills needed when applying for positions.

The student who interviews the most successfully will be offered a 3 day work placement with Tribe to learn more about the world of PR and City College Norwich will present the successful student with their very own iPad.

City College Norwich is keen to improve the employability of students for when they leave the college. In order to do this a programme of activities has been devised to assist with developing the skills needed when applying for a job.

Over the past few weeks students from across the College have been busy applying for their chance to be part of this unique opportunity with only 5 being selected for the interview stage that takes place on Friday 26th November.

Tribe will be hosting a half day practice recruitment session for the successful five students for the position of PR Trainee / Administrator which will include candidates taking part in group presentations and discussions and a face to face interview.

The interview panel will comprise Chloe Smith, Norwich North MP, Robin Ghurbhurun, Vice Principal Innovation and Business Development at City College and Lindsey Roffe, Head of Development at Tribe.

The initiative follows a series of “Next Generation” seminars held by Chloe Smith with local firms, local entrepreneurs and City College Norwich, which focus on employability issues and the needs of young people during the recession.

Camerapersons from City College Norwich will be there on the day to film the whole process. The College’s New Media team will use the film to create new training resources for tutors to help students prepare for applications and interviews. As well as this TribeTV will film the recruitment morning to create a short promotional film. The video will be sent to local businesses to encourage future recruitment days to benefit City College Norwich students.

Dick Palmer, Principal of City College Norwich said: “This initiative is a fantastic opportunity for our students. In an increasingly difficult job market, it is vital that young people acquire the skills they need to secure employment and this is an innovative way of enabling our students to try those skills out in a real recruitment environment. We are very grateful to Tribe PR who have committed their time and facilities to host Friday’s interviews and for also offering such a unique work placement.”

Lindsey Roffe, Head of Development at Tribe said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with City College and Chloe Smith on this first of its kind recruitment morning. The jobs market is more competitive than ever so students should take this opportunity to hone their job application and interview skills and be one step ahead of the competition. We are confident the experience will benefit the students and prove valuable when the students are faced with real life job applications and interviews.”

Chloe Smith MP said:  “It is absolutely vital to focus on the needs of the next generation, in this recession and over the coming years.  It’s a credit to Norwich to be able to work together with local firms and colleges in this way to promote the skills needed for employment and real life.  It is a good addition to a strong programme of events.”
