Courses starting this coming September

You may have seen the report in the Norwich Evening News (today Tuesday 3rd August) or the story in the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press (tomorrow Wednesday 4th August) about courses at City College Norwich being full. This is not correct!!   Many of courses are indeed over subscribed - and have been consistently so for a number of years now - but many courses also still have places. The clear message is please dont panic if you are looking forwards to coming to City College Norwich ths September.

End of term

Well another acdemic year alost over and what a year for City College Norwich. We won another National Training Award, had a range of students get into the regional and national finals of the WorldSkills competitions and our Student Union was runner up in the National Union of Students Award for FE Union of the Year - well done to all of them. But the highlight has to be winning the Queen's Anniversary Trust Award for Higher and Further Education.

Caucasian Chalk Circle - by Brecht (the Frank McGuiness version)

My students in Creative Arts are putting on a stunning show (started last night and continues tonight and tomorrow - Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th) of this great play by Brecht. Its organised - directed, stage managed, sound, lighting etc - by students as well as performed by them and this sort of "open, in the round" production is truly a joy to watch. So if you need something exciting to do tonight after the game or tomorrow - come to City College Norwich's Drama Theatre and see a great play!

A Level Students' Visual Arts Show

There is a fantastic Visual Arts Show by A Level students from City College Norwich's Sixth Form Centre currently exhibiting down in The Mall, in Norwich (inside the old Zavvi shop premises - over three floors). Plesae do go down and have a look at the fine art, textiles and photography work of this  year's students - which are probably the best year to date. Well done to all the staff and the students who have made this such an inspiring and exciting event.

Working with Norfolk Football Association (FA)

Yesterday was a great day for Norfolk FA with the launch by Robert Green (West Ham and England and previously, of course, Norwich goalkeeper)of the Football Development Centre (see:http://www.thefdcnorfolk.com/).

City College Norwich is really proud to be the official partner for the Centre for the first three years and we will have at least 60 students using the facilities from this September.

Cuts at City College Norwich - no courses threatened,

I am  pleased to announce that we will not be cutting any courses on financial grounds, and will be protecting our services for students, after we have been forced to unveil proposals for making savings in our budget totalling £2.8m over the next 3 years.  Anyone thinking of applying for courses starting in September 2010 can rest assured that advertised courses will still be running – however, any new prospective students should get their applications in quickly as course places are filling up fast!
