Student Absence Hotline

Explanations of any absence must be phoned in to the Absence Line on:

01603 773 631

If you receive EMA/ALG payments you must phone the Absence Line by 10.00am. Medical certificates should be handed in the completed blue EMA/ALG form at the Advice Shop. If you are absent for four weeks without producing a written explanation you will be regarded as having left the course.

When you phone the Absence Line please ensure you have your student ID number with you. You will be greeted with a recorded message asking you the following questions:

  1. What’s your name and student number? (alternatively you can leave your name and date of birth)
  2. What course are you on and who is your tutor?
  3. Do you receive EMA or ALG payment?
  4. Does anyone else need to be told that you’ll be away? If so, who?
  5. Please briefly give us the reason for your absence and tell us when you expect to return

If you are on placement, you’ll also need to let the placement staff know that you’ll be absent.

If someone is calling the absence line on your behalf, please ensure they have all the information to be able to answer the recorded questions.

If you are arriving late or leaving College early due to sickness, you must sign out at the Advice Shop and complete a yellow form; otherwise it may impact on your EMA/ALG.

If you have a justified reason for absence and claim EMA or ALG payments

You must notify the Advice Shop and complete the relevant form either before or immediately upon your return to College. Failure to do so will result in a loss of EMA payment.

If you have a justified reason for absence and don’t claim EMA or ALG payments

– please speak to your Tutor

You should be aware that if you are at any time absent without good reason or explanation for any part of your course, then the College has an obligation to inform parents or guardians with whom you reside (for students under 18), appropriate local education authorities or examination boards. In the case of employed part-time students, your employer will be notified of any unexplained absence from college. You are expected to maintain a maximum attendance during the whole of your course.

If you are absent because of any concerns or issues you would like to discuss further, please contact your PAL on 01603 773625 or email pal@ccn.ac.uk who will be more than happy to call you back or meet with you and help you return to college.
